Rope Toy Up-Cycle {using old clothes}

Today I spent some time up-cycling my daughters old clothes into rope toys for our puppy. Having a child means having a ton of extra clothes at the end of every season – well…if they have grandparents that tend to buy them 20 extra pairs of everything. lol. I hate getting rid of so much stuff. Don’t get me wrong, I love donating to our Goodwill, but lately it seems like I’m there a LOT.

Our puppy Doc is getting bored with his old toys and is chewing on everything. These cute rope toys are going to remedy that {I hope}.

What I used:
Children's clothing
Scissors

Really, that’s all you need :)
I love using my daughter’s clothes. When you mix cute little girly patterns with cute little girly colors, they always turn out so pretty.

In particular, I love lacy skirts and shirts. The lace works well for tying the ends and gives the rope that extra something.

To start, you’ll want to cut your strips. I like mine between 1 1/2 to 2 inches wide. Depending on your fabric (and the size of your pup) you might want to go a bit wider.

Make sure they are all the same length.

You’ll find that your fabric with a pattern might roll in a way that make the pattern not show. This can be annoying, but I just keep flipping it back out.

Tie your beginning point. Braid. Tie your ending point. DONE!

Don’t worry about cutting your strips perfect, or braiding perfect. They come out cute no matter what.

Cute? The pup likes them :) And speaking of pup, the little guy is getting big.

He's a big mama's boy. But shhh....it's a secret :)

Hope everyone’s week is great!

  2. I love this neat and simple idea for reusing old clothes!
    I would love if you came and linked this project to my clothes upcycling project page. It has a long term linky, so your project would stay there for more than just the week of a usual linky. We have over 400 projects linked up now – some fantastic ideas.
    Do come and take a look!
