Teal TV Stand & End Table Redo

I decided on teal for my TV stand and end table. TEAL. Of all colors. I love teal. The color is so adorable. And if it's a random piece of furniture or accessory....even better. I was surfing the web looking for inspirational ideas and this living room really sold me on the teal idea....

I love the color combination. It's perfect. And I really want that TV stand :) But anywhooo! So I ran to Home Depot with my teal idea and got my paint and ran home to start on my project. Let me tell you...I finished sanding, priming, and painting all in one night. Whew!

Here is the yuck factor. My laminate TV stand with holes on top and my laminate end table with parts of the top peeled off from tape. How embarrassing....

I had to do something with those dumb holes so I used wood filler. Probably not the best solution as this piece isn't wood...but it did the job for me.

I did some light sanding on both of these pieces and then did one coat of primer each.

I also only did one coat of teal paint. I let it dry for 24 hours before giving it an antiqued look with a wood stain.

So...what do you think???? Cute or ugly??

I am excited to see how the room looks when this is all said and done. Right now I am still working on getting the doors painted and put back on but I think it's going to look really sharp {I'll post pics when it's all done}. It's amazing what a little paint can do. I went from having two gross looking....mismatched pieces of furniture to two pieces of furniture that match and look new. All for the $10 quart of paint. I actually could have bought a smaller can of paint...I still have over half the can left!

TV Stand & End Table Redo

For the last few days I've been deciding on my next project. I have several project ideas but no concrete plan. I figured I better get one...and fast. Then it hit me. The TV stand in my living room has been a real eye sore now for a year and a half. When I moved into my townhouse, it took me and my helper all we had to lug the TV up a flight of stairs and get it situated onto this laminate piece of crap. I threw an old shower curtain over the top of the stand because there are holes all over it from where the top used to be. The curtain is lopsided and looks horrible. But because the TV is so heavy I haven't bothered trying to maneuver the curtain {which is going to get a face-lift for my daughters room in another project}.

So tonight, the project starts. I am going to have D help me take the TV off. Right now...I have no clue where we are going to put it. It might have to sit on the floor for a few days. Oh well...doesn't bother me because I only watch TV on Monday nights :)

This project couldn't have come at a better time. Last Sunday my daughter decided to tape streamers to it while making a fort. When she took the tape off, the laminate came right with it. Oops!  Take a look...

Yuck. So this will get a little face-lift to match the TV stand. I'm thinking about painting them a bright teal. I need something that pops in this room and I'm thinking teal will do the trick. Plus it's my fav color. I can't wait to see how it looks when it's all finished :)

Laminate Wall Shelf Revamp

I've had a set of 3 white laminate shelves since I was about 16. My mother bought them for me as a gift and for some reason they've tagged along with me for many years. Maybe it’s the sentimental value I've attached to them. Either way they were really banged up and not very attractive.

The first thing I did was remove the hardware and lightly sanded them.

I was careful not to sand too much, as the particle wood will fray. Because it was white, I only needed one coat of primer. Then I applied one coat of yellow paint.

I let it sit overnight to make sure that it was good and dry. I wanted to give it an antique look so I applied some wood stain with a sponge brush. Then I wiped it off with a rag. When doing this, you are able to do as much or as little antique affect as you like.

The finished product is better then I expected. This was my first paint project so I didn't know how it was going to turn out. The paint gives them a more "upscale" look and I can't tell they are made of laminate at all.

I have a TV stand I use in my living room that is laminate. I was going to just get rid of it, but I am thinking about trying to give that one a face lift too. Maybe this weekend!
